The Tour Aotearoa is a 3000km, New Zealand, end-to-end, unsupported, bike packing trip from Cape Reinga (top of the North Island) to Bluff (bottom of the South Island).
Anyone can do this anytime, a bit like the UK’s Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) but, being Kiwi, on steroids: it’s double the distance, 29km of ascent (>thrice up Mr Everest from sea level) and the 2nd longest mountain bike packing tour in the world. Moreover, with water my bike is ~27kg, three times the weight of my road bike.
This steel frame Thorn Nomad is not the lightest of beasts at about 16kg. However, it’s super comfortable and has a 14 speed Rohloff internal gear hub.

Additional luggage (minus my heavy 700g bike lock ditched at the 11th hour) is 10kg.
The Kennett Brothers also arrange a specific event or ‘brevet’, a bit like a very long UK ‘audax’, with up to 1300 riders, released in waves of 100 a day from Feb 17th. This is the third brevet after the 2016 and 2018 events You can follow me and other riders as moving dots on a map - click on link MAProgress (for me - under the marker Vjrin; full name on the MAProgress site is Vajrin Malin in the Wave 19th Feb ‘Rider List’). Here you can select who you wish to follow. There’s also an App.
